Romara Challys and her Falcons are Vestal Knights, who have shed blood to uphold the Triple Empire against the destructive Vyr Rebellion.

Her comrades, big-hearted Gram, the prodigy Soren, and the erling mage Elindhu, are seeking her rescue, but the forces arrayed against them seem insurmountable.
Meanwhile, her loyal second, Jadyn, and the mercurial thief Aura, are seeking the aegis, an alternative magic, following a path laid down centuries before. But hunting them are Vazi Virago, the Order’s Exemplar, and the fearsome lictor, Yoryn Borghart; who want the aegis for their own devious ends.
The seas are rising, harvests are failing, refugees flooding across borders are sparking wars, and the destructive rebellion threatens civilisation. The End of All Things is coming, the priests and seers say. Coros is doomed.

The Falcons are knights of the Vestal Order, pledged to use their supernatural powers to protect society from the bestial Vyr and the ecological carnage they have unleashed on the Empire of Talmont.
When the Falcons capture a Vyr, they take the fateful decision to interrogate him themselves, against the Order’s protocols. From the captured rebel they learn of a terrible possibility: that civilisation’s worst enemy may not be the Vyr at all – but their own Order.
The indomitable Romara Challys and her beloved comrade Jadyn Kaen lead the Falcons through burning forests, lost ruins and the uncanny refuge of a dying race, on their quest for lost powers and hidden truths.
But Yoryn Borghart, a fanatical Lictor with his own agenda of evil, and Vazi Virago, the greatest warrior-knight of the Age, are leading the Order on their own quest: to bring the traitorous Falcons to justice, before they fatally undermine the whole edifice of power.
